Dividends, DRPs and corporate actions
How Franked works out dividends, and how to handle DRPs, splits, demergers and takeovers.
Dividends are worked out for you
Franked looks at what you held on each ex-dividend date and calculates the dividend, including franking credits for Australian shares and withholding tax for US shares. They appear on the Income page marked as estimates. When your statement arrives, check the amount and confirm it, or edit it if it's different.
Dividend reinvestment plans (DRPs)
If you're on a DRP, record the new shares you received as a buy on the payment date, at the DRP price, with no brokerage. The dividend is still income in the year it was paid, and the new shares are a new parcel for capital gains.
Splits and consolidations
Share splits are applied automatically from market data. If one is missing, add it with Trades → Corporate action.
Demergers, takeovers and capital returns
Use Trades → Corporate action and choose the type. For a demerger, enter the new company and the cost base split from the company's letter (for example, 90% / 10%). For a capital return, enter the amount per share. The cost base of your parcels is adjusted so future capital gains are right.
